Spring Symposium on Envisioning Democratic Futures

On March 21-22, the Clough Center for the Study of Constitutional Democracy at Boston College will host our Spring Symposium, the major event of our program year. Focused on this year鈥檚 theme, Envisioning Democratic Futures, and featuring commentator Ezra Klein, the Symposium鈥檚 panels will grapple with an array of diverse 鈥 and timely 鈥 topics, including:
- global trends in liberal democracy;
- the impact of migration and refugees on democratic politics;
- descriptive representation and democratic futures;
- AI and democracy; and
- religious nationalism, minorities, and democracy.

Speakers
Ezra Klein听
Using his trademark depth of policy knowledge and academic research, Ezra Klein gives audiences a听systematic look at why American politics is so polarized, and what that polarization has done to electoral听institutions, policymaking, and the media.
Klein is a columnist on the New York Times opinion page, host of the award-winning 鈥淓zra Klein Show鈥澨齪odcast, and author of the bestselling book, 鈥淲hy We鈥檙e Polarized.鈥
Before that, he was the founder, editor-in-chief, and then editor-at-large of Vox, the explanatory news听platform, which has won a bevy of awards and now reaches more than 50 million people each month. He听was also a creator and executive producer of its hit Netflix show, 鈥淓xplained.鈥
Prior to starting Vox, Klein founded and led The Washington Post鈥檚 Wonkblog. He is also a columnist for听Bloomberg News and a regular contributor/policy analyst for MSNBC.
The Economist named him one of the 鈥淢inds of the Moment.鈥 In 2011, TIME named his blog one of the听25 best financial blogs and the Society of American Business Editors and Writers named Klein as their听2011 Opinion Columnist of the Year. In 2012, GQ named him to their 50 Most Powerful People in听Washington list and Esquire named him to their 79 Things We Can All Agree On list saying, 鈥淓zra Klein听gives economics columnists a good name.鈥
